Air Fryer Homemade Pizza Rolls

Think of a cinnamon roll but instead of the sweet filling, it’s filled with your favorite pizza toppings. Pizza rolls in the Air fryer have a nice doughy crust, filled with meat, mozzarella cheese, and toppings rolled up and baked. They are baked nestled together so you get to cook them in one go and pull each one out like a pull-apart bread. They are also called pizza pinwheels and are a fun way to serve pizza. Both kids and adults love them!

The pizza rolls are made from scratch using homemade dough. You can also buy a pre-made pizza dough but making this dough at home is easier than you think. The dough is made with pantry staples you probably have in your kitchen. I even used all-purpose flour because not everyone has self-raising flour at home all the time. So these can be made any time cravings hit or when you want a fun snack.

Choose your favorite pizza toppings to fill these rolls with. The options are endless and you can play to your heart’s content! I used pepperoni, roasted red peppers from the jar, red onions and green olives, and plenty of mozzarella cheese.

Unlike the store-bought frozen pizza roll varieties, these are made at home from scratch and you know exactly what goes into them! Serve them as an after-school snack or as a light dinner. Get the kids involved in and they’ll love it!

How To Make Pizza Rolls/Pinwheels In The Air Fryer

It’s so easy to make these homemade pizza rolls in the Air fryer. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and give it a good stir.
  2. Mix in the chopped cold butter to the dry ingredients with your fingers.
  3. Add the yogurt little by little and mix until you get a soft sticky dough. Knead lightly until smooth.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface, about 10″x15″ inch rectangle.
  5. Spread the pizza sauce on top and layer it with toppings and cheese.
  6. Roll the dough up tightly, cover it with a plastic wrap and freeze it for 15 minutes.
  7. Preheat the Air fryer for 5 minutes.
  8. Cut the dough into 12 slices, trimming off the ends. Place the cut side up on the air fryer basket.
  9. Cover it with foil and bake at 350F for 20 minutes or until the rolls are baked and golden.
  10. Remove the foil and sprinkle more cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes.

Important Tips

  • Self raising flour can be used instead of all purpose flour+ baking soda+ baking powder. Use the same amount of 2 cups.
  • Use Greek yogurt or unsweetened yogurt and start with 3/4 cup and more needed to form the dough.
  • You can also use a store bought pizza dough instead of making the dough.
  • Chip or slice the toppings finely. Since we are rolling the dough we don’t want any large pieces.
  • If you are using wet ingredients, dry them by pressing on kitchen towels.
  • Don’t overfill the rolls.
  • Roll the dough on a floured surface. Remove the rolled dough and place it on a plastic wrap. This will help roll the dough after you place toppings on it.
  • Since we are dealing with a sticky dough, it’s important to freeze it at least for 10 minutes.
  • Cover the rolls with a foil before baking so the tops won’t get burned quickly.

What Air Fryer To Use?

I placed all twelve pizza rolls in my 5.8 quart Cosori Air fryer. It’s a basket type Air fryer and perfect for a family of 5. If you have small 3 or 4 quart air fryer make it in batches.
