    Air Fryer Blueberry Scones

We had a lot of scones when we were living in Ireland. After moving to Canada, we hardly had any. Partly because I didn't want to heat up the oven for a batch of scones. That changed after getting the Air fryer. I could make these scones in no time, it became one of my favorite recipes to bake in the Air fryer..

These scones are not your hard, bland scones. They are soft, full of blueberries with a lemony hint thanks to the lemon zest used in this recipe. You'll be amazed how much flavor these scones pack. They are so delicious you can never get enough of them! You can serve them on their own or with cream and jam like the Europeans do. I prefer it on it's own with a cup of tea!

I love how easy it is to make the blueberry scones in the Air fryer. It takes less than 30 minutes to make these bad boys from start to finish. They are great for breakfast, snack or when you are feeling peckish any time of the day!

I love using fresh blueberries in the scones. But frozen blueberries are great too. If you have excess blueberries freeze them in a zip lock bag and use it in scones.

Why we love this Air fryer Blueberry Scones:

    • Soft, full of blueberries with hint of lemon
    • Easy to make even the kids can help

How To Make Scones in the Air Fryer

Making homemade, fresh scones in the Air fryer couldn't be any easier! Get the kids involved in forming the dough and they will love the experience! My kids love to get involved and finish the results in no time. Here's how to make these amazing scones:

    1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar and baking powder.
    2. Mix in the cold chopped butter to the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
    3. Add in beaten egg, lemon zest and milk. Stir until combined and a loose dough forms.
    4. Gently stir in the blueberries.
    5. Dump the dough on to a floured surface and gently knead until dough is no longer sticky.
    6. Cut into 8 wedges.
    7. Beat the egg yolk and milk together in a small bowl.
    8. Arrange the wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Brush with egg. Sprinkle some demerara sugar on top.
    9. Bake the scones at 350F for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown on top.

    Important Tips

    • Make sure the butter is cold to get a crumbly soft texture.
    • Don't overmix the dough. Mix just until the dough is formed
    • When adding blueberries, stir them in gently. We don't want blueberries crushed and bleed to the dough.
    • The dough will be a bit sticky. Dump it on a floured surface and knead until no longer sticky.
    • You can form the dough to the size that fits your Air fryer basket. I formed a 7" round. If you want round scones instead of wedges, use a cookie cutter to cut rounds from the dough.

    FAQs about Air Fryer Scones

What else Can I Use Instead of Blueberries?

You can use raisins, walnuts or chocolate chips instead of blueberries. If you prefer plain scones, leave it out.

    How to Serve Scones

Scones are typically served with clotted cream and jam. These scones can either be served with whipped cream, jam or both on the side. You can serve these scones on their own with tea too.

How to Store and Freeze Scones

The scones will keep at room temperature, in an air tight container for 2 days. They can be kept in the fridge for 5 days. Reheat them in the microwave or the Air fryer in a low setting.

If you want to freeze the scones, put them in a zip lock bag and freeze for 3 months. Thaw in the fridge and reheat them choosing your preferred method. I wouldn't recommend the freezing the dough.

Umm, 6 T of butter is not a half a cup. It 3/8 of a cup. There are 4 T to each quarter cup so should I use 6 T or 1/2 c of butter?

Hi Leslie, it should be 6 tbsp of butter. I corrected in the recipe card. Thanks for pointing that out.
