Combine Dry Ingredients: Start by adding flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Mix these ingredients well to ensure they’re evenly distributed.

Add Butter: Next, grate cold butter and add it to the flour mixture. You can also cube the butter and add it, but grating it allows for easier integration.

Mix Butter and Flour: Gently mix the butter into the flour until it becomes crumbly. This is an important step as it helps to distribute the butter evenly throughout the dough.

Add Milk: Gradually pour the milk into the mix, working it until a loose dough forms. Be careful not to overmix. It’s perfectly fine to have some pieces of butter in the dough.

Transfer and Spread Dough: Move the dough to a floured surface and spread it into a rectangle. Fold the dough twice then spread it into a 1½-inch thickness using your hands. You can also use a rolling pin gently on the top to get an even layer.

Cut the Dough: Use a pastry cutter to cut out 6 biscuits. Spread the remaining biscuit dough and cut another 2 biscuits.

Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer at 380 degrees F for 2 minutes. This step is crucial for achieving the perfect golden brown biscuits.

Air Fry the Biscuits: Spray the basket with cooking spray or place a parchment paper. Place the biscuits in the air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry for 8 to 10 minutes. Continue this process until the biscuits have risen and the tops are golden brown. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Expert Tips

  • Use Cold Butter: Ensure the butter is cold by freezing it before grating.
  • Avoid Overworking the Dough: Be careful not to overwork the dough; mix it just until it comes together. It’s best to avoid using a food processor or stand mixer for this reason.
  • Use a Floured Cutter: Dust the biscuit cutter with flour to prevent the dough from sticking.
  • Flour the Dough: Flour the dough regularly while working with it and cutting it to prevent it from sticking.
  • Air Fry in Batches: Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the biscuits in batches. This ensures even cooking and perfect golden brown tops. I was able to get 8 biscuits with a medium cutter.
  • Brush with Melted Butter: After air frying, brush your biscuits with melted butter. This gives them a beautiful sheen and adds an extra layer of flavor.

How To Serve

Air fryer biscuits are a great side dish that can be served in a variety of ways. Here are a few suggestions on how you could serve them up:

  • With a Soup: Air fryer biscuits are the perfect companion for your favorite soups! They pair wonderfully with a bowl of creamy tomato soup or a hearty roasted broccoli soup. Dip them in for a comforting, delicious meal.
  • Together with Chili or Gravy: For a more substantial meal, serve your air fryer biscuits with a side of chili or smother them in gravy. The flaky, buttery biscuits soak up the flavors beautifully, making for a satisfying dish.
  • As a Treat: They’re delicious served with a pat of butter and a drizzle of honey or jam. Or stuffed with cream and jam.

Storage

These delicious air fryer biscuits can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. They will maintain their freshness for up to 3 days.

They will also keep up to a week in the refrigerator. This makes them a convenient make-ahead option. Simply reheat them in the air fryer or microwave before serving to enjoy them warm and fresh-tasting.

How to Reheat Biscuits in Air Fryer

When you’re ready to enjoy your refrigerated leftover biscuits, consider air frying them for a delicious and crispy result. To bring back that fresh-out-of-the-oven warmth and texture, reheat them in the air fryer at 350 F for 3 to 4 minutes.

FAQs

Can you cook canned biscuits in an air fryer?

Absolutely! You can definitely cook canned or refrigerated biscuits like Pillsbury Grands biscuits in the air fryer. All you need to do is preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees F and bake the biscuits for about 7 – 8 minutes. Remember to bake in batches if your air fryer isn’t large enough to accommodate all the biscuits at once.

Why aren’t my biscuits fluffy or high?

If your biscuits aren’t turning out as fluffy or high as you’d like, it could be due to overmixing. Overmixing can make the dough tough and prevent it from rising properly. To avoid this, try to mix the dough just until it comes together and no more.
Also, make sure your baking powder is fresh to get the best results.

Are biscuits better with butter or shortening?

Both butter and shortening can make delicious biscuits, but they do have slightly different effects. Butter gives biscuits a rich, flavorful, and slightly crispy exterior, while shortening tends to make biscuits a bit fluffier and lighter. It’s all about personal preference!

How do I know when my biscuits are done?

Your biscuits are done when they’ve risen and the tops are golden brown. This usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes in the air fryer. If you’re unsure, you can also insert a toothpick into the center of a biscuit. If it comes out clean, your biscuits are done.
