If you haven’t eaten these blistered Air Fryer Shishito peppers you’re missing out. I love peppers of every kind and this is one of my favorites. I discovered them when I ran out of my spicy green chili peppers. I always walked past them at the store and never really saw them. They weren’t spicy, quite the opposite. These are very mild and taste similar to green bell peppers with a punch.

When cooked something remarkable happens to these little bite-sized peppers. They get this charred, smokey, sweet flavor that’s so delicious. Paired with my garlic aioli, you’ll definitely go for seconds. It’s a kind of appetizer your guests will fall in love with. It also makes a great side dish or snack any time of the day.

What Are Shishito Peppers?

shishito peppers in the package.

Shishito peppers are popular in Japan as a mild chili pepper. It’s becoming popular in the rest of the world, especially in North America where you’ll find it as an appetizer on menus.

They’re not seasonal and you can buy shishito peppers all year round in grocery stores, specialty stores, or farmer’s markets.

Shishito peppers are healthy and good for us as it packs a high content of Vitamin C and is loaded with other nutrients like manganese and potassium.

Are Shishito Peppers Hot?

Shishito peppers aren’t hot at all. They are milder than jalapeno peppers. It’s written in the package that 1 in 10 peppers will pack a bit of extra heat but I’m yet to find one.

You can eat the whole pepper with the seeds. No need to remove the seeds unless you’re stuffing them. They can be eaten raw too.
