Frozen Sweet Potato Fries In Air Fryer
Frozen Sweet Potato Fries In Air Fryer makes crispy sweet potato fries in less time than the oven! No deep frying and you have a healthy side dish on the table in minutes.

Frozen Sweet Potato Fries In Air Fryer
I always keep a bag of frozen sweet potato fries in the freezer. They’re my go to on days when I don’t want to cook, or just don’t have the time, but still want something healthy on the table.
I never used to buy frozen fries. I’m not a fan of deep frying, and it always felt like an easy way to add empty calories. Since getting our air fryer, I keep frozen fries and a few other freezer staples on hand for exactly these moments. Some of our favourites are Air Fryer Frozen Pizza, Air Fryer Frozen French Fries, and Frozen Burgers in the Air Fryer.
Yes, you could bake frozen sweet potato fries in the oven instead. But heating up the whole oven for a batch of fries feels like a waste of time and energy, and in summer, turning the oven on isn’t even an option. The air fryer solves that. The fries come out perfectly crisp. No soggy fries here.
Sweet potatoes are really healthy side dish to include in your meals. They go with meat, chicken or seafood. We like to have it with Air fryer Garlic Steak Bites, Air fryer Chicken Legs or Air fryer Shrimp. If you are looking for more Air fryer recipes check our favorites in Air Fryer Recipe Collection.
If you have some time to spare why not make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes, Sweet Potato Wedges, or Baked Sweet Potatoes. They are so delicious and so easy to make!
Ingredients
- A bag of frozen sweet potato fries – Alexia sweet potato fries, Ore-Ida sweet potato fries or the Trader Joes are popular and don’t have many additives. In Canada, you get McCain sweet potato fries or the Great value brand. I use a 1 pound (16 oz) bag.
- Olive oil – use a cooking spray to spray some oil lightly, so the fries won’t stick together. Any neutral oil would work.
- Ground Black Pepper, Paprika – these spices are totally optional but I like to sprinkle some for more flavor.
How To Cook Frozen Sweet Potato Fries In Air Fryer

Preheat the air fryer at 375F for 5 minutes.
While the air fryer gets preheated, remove the fries from the bag and spread them on a baking sheet. This is totally optional but makes it easier to coat the fries with oil and season them properly.

Spray the frozen fries with olive oil or your preferred oil. DONT use aerosol cooking spray directly in the Air fryer basket as it will chip the coating. Even if you’re spraying it on food there’s a chance the basket might get sprayed. It’s safer to do this before placing the fries in the Air fryer.

Season the sweet potato fries. I like to keep it simple and season them with some salt, ground black pepper, or paprika. Use your favorite seasonings. Garlic powder, onion powder and Italian seasoning would be great options too.

Place sweet potato fries in the Air fryer basket. Make sure you don’t completely fill the air fryer basket if you’re doing a big batch. Fill up to half the basket.
Air fry sweet potato fries at 375F for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until crispy shaking the basket halfway through. This ensures that all the fries crisp up evenly. You can cook for an additional 1 or 2 minutes or until you like them.

Remove the sweet potato fries from the Air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce. I like to use ketchup, BBQ sauce, spicy mayo or even ranch dressing.
Recipe Tips
- Preheat the Air fryer. This ensures the fries will cook fast and is crispy. If you skip preheating, add an additional 3 to 4 minutes to your cooking time.
- Oil and season the fries before placing them in Air fryer. I use an Olive oil cooking spray and since aerosol spray can chip the nonstick coating, I coat my frozen sweet potato fries with a bit of oil and season on a baking sheet before placing them in the Air fryer basket.
- Don’t overfill the basket. If you’re cooking a large batch, make sure you stack them up to half of the basket.
- Cook at a lower temperature. Many recipes call for air frying the sweet potato fries at 400F or higher. If you are placing your fries on a single layer or cooking a single serving, this would work fine. What I found is that since I dump a whole 16oz bag for my family in the Air fryer, and stack the fries up, the high temperature burns the top layer of fries while the bottom is still being cooked. So I keep the temperature low.
