I love smoothies! This is one of my go-to smoothies when I crave for one. It comes together in minutes because the ingredients are so simple and something that you have lying around if you follow a low carb, keto diet.

Loaded with healthy fats, nutritious veggies and protein it is sure to keep you full for hours. It’s creamy and delicious. Lime juice adds freshness to the smoothie and it rounds up the flavors beautifully. Extra lime juice and no sweeteners. That’s how I like to have it.

Whether you need a quick and fulfilling breakfast, a post workout snack or a refreshing low carb green smoothie you need to make this!

Are smoothies low carb, keto friendly?

Typical smoothies – which are made with fruits, juice or milk – are high in sugar and carbs.

Choose ingredients that are low carb or keto approved to include in smoothies. For this recipe I’ve chosen avocado, spinach, unsweetened almond milk and whey protein powder (unflavored) which are approved low carb ingredients.

Ingredients in keto green smoothie

Unsweetened almond milk

Avocado– half an avocado, fresh or frozen

Whey protein powder – unflavored is the best, no hidden sugars and doesn’t alter the flavor

Spinach – substitute kale for spinach

Lime juice – lemon juice would work too

Sugar free sweetener– optional. If you must use, I suggest 1 envelope of stevia monk fruit blend, 1 tablespoon of erythritol, liquid stevia or sugar free syrup

Ice cubes

How to make

Whipping this smoothie up couldn’t be any easier. Gather all your ingredients. Cut the avocado in half and scoop out the flesh. Measure your protein powder. I used only half a scoop but feel free to increase it. Cut the lime in half and juice it. Get a handful of spinach, roughly about 1 cup.

Ingredients for Keto green smoothie

Add half the avocado, spinach, lime juice, protein powder, almond milk, ice cubes and sweetener if you are using, to a high powered blender.

And pulse until the smoothie is blended and smooth.

Taste and adjust to your liking. Add more lime juice if you want it a bit more sour. More almond milk if you want to thin it down. Adjust the sweetness if you are using a sweetener.

Optional ingredients for your low carb green smoothie

This smoothie is a great base to add your favorite add-ins according to your needs.

  • Substitute kale for spinach.
  • Cucumbers or zucchini would work well if you want to increase your veggie intake. Add a cup of cut veggies to the smoothie.
  • Collagen
  • MCT oil
  • Matcha powder
  • Top your smoothie with hemp seeds as I have done in the photo or berries (raspberry, blueberries or blackberries)

The green smoothie tastes best when it’s consumed fresh. But if you want to store, the lime juice will prevent it from browning. I wouldn’t advise keeping it more than one day in the fridge.

I hope you will enjoy this perfect keto green smoothie as much as I do! Don’t forget to tell your friends or pin it for later!
