Zespri Arabia did it again, that is to send me another box of kiwis. This time it was a pleasant surprise, in the form golden kiwis. I have never tasted golden kiwis before. Eagerly, I cut open a kiwi,scooped out the golden flesh and started devouring. The note of lemonade hit me sharply as I was warned. It was still not fully ripe. I gave it a few days and since the Ramadan started the box of kiwis was not disturbed very much.
The next time I tested the kiwis, the skin indented to the touch and I knew it’s time. It was blissfully sweet with no hint of tartness. Here is a fruit that should be eaten as it is, cooking it in any form will hide it’s subtle sweetness and flavor. I racked my brains and poured over recipes to use this golden kiwi. All the while, biting into it seen the kiwis from the box vanish right under my nose. I feared that I won’t be able to come up with anything before my stock of kiwi runs out. I didn’t want to destroy all the vitamins and minerals by cooking the kiwi,so I made a lemonade with it perfect for Iftar/Breaking Fast.
