Equipment

  • Casserole dish
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche bread
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter

To serve

  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup
  • blueberries, raspberries, strawberries

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350˚F. Use a tablespoon of butter to grease the casserole dish.
Cut the brioche bread into about 1.5-inch cubes. They should all be roughly the same size.
  • Beat the eggs lightly in a large mixing bowl. Add the brown sugar and beat until the sugar is dissolved.
Add the heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, spices and a pinch of salt to the egg mixture and whisk until combined.
  • Fill the casserole dish with cubed bread. Pour the custard mixture over the bread.
Use a spatula or spoon to press the bread down in the custard mixture so all the bread is soaked in the liquid . If you're prepping ahead, cover the dish with plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge overnight and bake it in the morning.
  • Bake at 350˚F for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes clean. After baking, allow the casserole to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting. Serve with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Along with maple syrup and berries.
