How To Make Chocolate Chip Cookies In The Air Fryer

The dough for this chocolate chip cookie is the standard cookie dough and it couldn’t be much easier. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Preheat the Air fryer at 350F for 10 minutes.
  2. Add softened butter, brown sugar and caster sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat using an electric beater until pale and smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract and beat until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl. Add flour and baking soda and beat until a dough forms. You may have to stir with a spatula for all the flour to mix.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Line the Air fryer basket with parchment paper. Scoop out the dough, about 1 tablespoon each into small balls and flatten it between your palms and place it on the Air fryer basket. Place as many cookie dough you can fit in leaving room for the cookies to spread.
  6. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until golden brown on the edges.
  7. Remove from the basket and transfer to wire rack. Press chocolate chips on top of the cookies while still warm. Sprinkle with sea salt.
  8. If you’re baking more cookies, place the next batch in the basket and bake.

Important Tips

Here are some of the tips and tricks to make the perfect chocolate chip cookies in the Air fryer.

  • Ingredients:
    • Butter – use softened butter that’s at room temperature. Not too soft or melted. I use salted butter and omit the salt in the dough. Salted butter enhances the flavor of sweetness in baked goods.
    • Sugar – A mix of brown sugar and white sugar is used. Brown sugar gives the cookies a golden color. Use white castor sugar. I once made the mistake of using large granulated natural sugar and my cookies wouldn’t spread.
    • Egg – should be at room temperature.
    • Chocolate chips – I used 50% dark chocolate chips. Feel free to add milk chocolate or white chocolate chips. Chopped chocolate would also work and will result in lots of gooey chocolate centers.
  • When baking it’s best to weigh the ingredients using a kitchen scale for best results. Don’t scoop out flour straight from the bag. Use a spoon to transfer the flour to the measuring cup and level it. A little bit of extra flour could make the dough thick and would not make the cookies crispy.
  • Preheat the Air fryer so the cookies will spread out, bake fast and give crispy edges.
  • The cookies will not spread on it’s own. I’ve tested so many combinations and it’s still came out looking like a mound. It spread a little bit but not enough. You need to flatten the dough out before baking. Roll the dough into a small ball and flatten it out on your palm with your fingers. This will encourage the dough to spread and makes the cookies thin and crispy.

What Air Fryer To Use

I baked my chocolate chip cookies in my 5.8 quart Cosori Air fryer. I could fit in 5 cookies at once. It’s a basket type Air fryer and perfect for a family of 5. If you have small 3 or 4 quart air fryer make it in batches.

FAQs About Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

Storage

Store baked cookies in an air tight container at room temperature for 3 days. By day 3, if you still have any leftovers, crisp them up in the Air fryer for a minute or two.

Freezing the Dough

What I love about baking cooking in the Air fryer is being able to make a small batch and freeze the rest of the dough for future cookie needs.

Portion out your dough and cover with plastic wrap. Freeze for 3 months. Bake the frozen cookie in the Air fryer adding and extra minute or two for the baking time.
